Sony Announces Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale!

While there have been rumors floating around for a few months now that Sony was working on a Super Smash Bros. copycat, there hasn’t been any official evidence…until now.  A few days ago, Sony announced a new PS3 exclusive, Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale.  According to reports about the game, only 6 characters have been announced at this point: Kratos (God of War), Colonel Radec (Killzone 2), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper), Parappa the Rapper (Parappa the Rapper), and the Fat Princess (Fat Princess) will all make their fighting debuts alongside a host of other popular Sony characters.

We’ve also got a few details on the levels.  In Smash Bros., the level designs are taken from popular game locations, however, each level only ever features locals from a single game.  In PAS: Battle Royale, the levels are designed to be mashups from two different Sony titles.  For example, one level showcases the Patapon army invading the God of War universe.  Another, shows a LittleBigPlanet level being worked on while a game of Buzz is taking place.

Overall, we don’t have a lot of information.  However, we do have some early gameplay footage.  Check out this announcement trailer:

On the whole, the game looks extraordinarily like Smash Bros.  However, that may not necessarily be a bad thing.  What are your thoughts on Playstation All Stars?  Drop a comment below and let us know!
