Thanks to the crazy folks over at RedFlagDeals, we know of a great deal going on at EB Games today—and that’s today only, folks, so be prepared to get off your hump and make a trip if this interests you.

EB Games is offering Metal Gear Solid 4: Limited Edition, which originally retailed for much more than the standard $60 version, for just $9.89. Yep, you can get a fancy version of one of the best PS3 games available for the price of a steak dinner at a family eatery.

If you live near a EB Games and have yet to experience MGS4, you really have no excuse to put it off any longer. Get in your car, or borrow somebody else’s vehicle, and get your butt down to EB Games. Don’t miss out on this great game before the price sky-rockets again!

UPDATE: I probably should stop updating the site in the wee hours of the morning, because I tend to miss obvious things—like the fact that this deal is only good in Canada. You’d think “RedFlag” would tip me off; but nope, it didn’t. But since the PS3 is region-free, you can still head across the border and pick a copy of MGS4 LE if you live close enough. If not, well, I don’t know what to say other than I’m sorry. I’ve got a copy of MGS4 sitting on my shelf, waiting for a new owner, if anyone is interested.

Metal Gear Online Reaches 1 Million Subscribers Worldwide

Posted November 4th, 2008 in News, Sony by Jonathan Klassen

Looks like there was enough people out there to brave the convoluted sign up process for MGO as it now has reached 1 million subscribers.  That is huge.  It did take all this time from June to reach it and I know that games like Gears of War, Halo, Warhawk, CoD4 and SOCOM probably reached those numbers quicker.  But for all the hype on how it was too much work to sign up for MGO for the type of game it is, that is a huge number.  I guess there are a lot of people in Europe and Japan that play MGO.

Anyhoo, Konami wants to celebrate by giving all MGO players 10,000 reward points (used to buy stuff in the game).  The only catch is you have to log on sometime between November 25 and December 9.  You may also be one of the lucky 30 people to receive 100,000 redemption points (10 from each major territory – North America, Europe, Japan).

Looks like this might be enough incentive for me to sign up and give it a try.

Konami again denies that Metal Gear Solid 4 is in the works for the Xbox 360. Konami’s PR rep Yoshitaka Arai was quoted as saying “we are investigating releasing a 360 version.” However, it seems the story was quickly edited. The original quote had been edited to include Castlevania and Pro Evolution Soccer instead of Metal Gear Solid 4.

The rumor of Metal Gear Solid being developed for the Xbox 360 seems to have been nipped in the bud for now. Konami is vehemently denying plans to develop Metal Gear Solid 4 for the 360. Instead, they are looking into developing other titles for the console.

So the news today has been a bit slow in coming down. I suppose not every day can have a flood of news. Here are a couple of news snippets for you in the meantime.

GTA: San Andreas is coming to Xbox Originals

More rumors claiming Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to Xbox 360

Rock Band 2 Prices and Release Dates for Wii, PS3, and PS2

Now, just to keep moving things along here, here’s your discussion topic: should Metal Gear Solid 4 come to the Xbox 360? Why or why not? Proper spelling and sentence structure please.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Posted October 8th, 2008 in Reviews, Sony by Jonathan Klassen

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the latest in the Metal Gear Solid series and is said to conclude the story of Solid Snake.  You play as Old Snake (AKA Solid Snake) as Snake has been experiencing pre-mature aging.  Having finally caught up with Revolver Ocelot/Liquid Snake, Solid Snake and Otacon are employed once again by Roy Campbell to eliminate Liquid/Revolver before he controls all the armies of the world.

MGS4 stays true to the heart of the Metal Gear Solid series while managing to innovate and bring a more western feel to the control of Snake (this was due to Ryan Payton’s influence).  The game play is broken down into 5 acts with a mission briefing between each chapter.  It is true that this game has very long cut scenes but this is keeping with the feel of the MGS series.  These scenes were beautifully rendered and I never once got bored watching them but they are skippable if you feel like you do not want to watch them.  The game play in MSG4 is awesome.  It simply was the best time I had controlling Snake.  Ryan Payton’s more western control scheme made controlling Snake easier and natural.  After getting a feel for the controls (which didn’t take long), I never once had to think what button to pressed when I needed to press it.  The MGS series has always been about sneaking (purists play the entire game without killing anyone as you can tranquilize or stun even the bosses) but this time around you can play the entire game as a FPS if you want.  There are a host of weapons and items in this game along with the ability to customize every weapon you pick up.

Afterthoughts with Ryan Payton

Posted September 14th, 2008 in News, Sony by Jonathan Klassen

For anyone who is a Metal Gear Solid 4 fan, sad news came a while back when Ryan Payton announced he had left Kojima Productions. Ryan was instrumental in bringing a more western control scheme to Snake for Metal Gear Solid 4.

1up catches up with Ryan Payton and you can see both articles here and here. These articles sums up his decision to leave Kojima Productions, his favorite new games, and the regret of not being able to work on a new Metal Gear game.
