Here we are again.  Top ten time.  This time it is the Super Nintendo (SNES).  Brings back memories.  Defeating Bowser yet again.  All your favorite NES games updated with the word “super” in front of them.

7.  Super Metroid

Super Metroid was released on April 18, 1994.  This game is a side scrolling platformer/shooter.  Game play was the same as it’s predecessors with a few upgrades.  The player was able to enable or disable Samus’ weapons with an inventory screen.  Also, the player could also walk backwards (“moonwalk”) while shooting.

With 1.4 Million units sold, Super Metroid is one of the most popular games in the Super Nintendo’s history.  Super Metroid can also be bought for the Virtual Console on the Wii.

If you have a Wii and want to play a 16 bit platformer that stars a blond heroine, I would recommend you go and buy this game.  Also, if you enjoy this series, I would suggest watching this retrospective by GameTrailers.
