OUYA CONSOLE?

by Robert Orcutt

According to Theverge.com, a $99 Android game console called OUYA maybe under construction by some big hitters of the game industry, including Yves Behar (one laptop per child fame), Ed Fries (Xbox), Amol Sarva (peek), Peter Pham, and Julie Uhrman of IGN as it’s founder and CEO. It’s reported they even nabbed someone named Muffi Ghadiali from Amazon and it’s Kindle Fire Team.

The Ouya (which near I can tell is “you” in pig-latin) is exepcted to hit that $99 price mark and is completely…and encouraged…hackable console that would be competing with the Google TV boxes.

Sounds interesting? Iway antway oneway!

Hmm, for $99, and a company that encourages hacking, that is pretty interesting. I will be keeping an eye on this one …

So here’s an update for you guys. They’ve started a kickstarter as of today (7/10/12) with the funding goal of $950,000. They hit that goal at about hour six or seven. As of 7:17 PM PST they’ve raised nearly $1.8 million in less than 24 hours. This thing is fund raising in crazy and everyone should at least check it out: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console?ref=home_leanback.

People are definitely showing their support here. I believe that this particular campaign has utterly destroyed the previous record for donations in 24 hours. I’ve basically preordered mine.
