Activision Smells Blood Money

The adventure genre revival seems to have reached a fevered pitch.

Activision, perhaps spurred by LucasArts’ recent release of classic adventure games,  today released nearly their entire line of King’s Quest and Space Quest games to Steam. Each collections will run you $14.99 until July 30th, when they’ll go up to their normal price of $19.99.

A bit of warning though. Unlike LucasArts, which released much of their back catalog with updated code to make sure they run on modern machines, Activision decided to not be so thorough. The system requirements state: “Some games in this collection may run under Windows XP 64 and Vista 32/64, but are not officially supported.”

These are games I never played in the past, so I’ll definitely be checking them out.

  1. These are some of the best games ever made. I have played the entire King’s Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest an some of the Leisure Suit Larry Series. All of the Sierra games are among some of the very best.

  2. I have to agree…Space Quest, Kings Quest, and Police Quest are super fun and lasted a long time! It was always fun to type in some wacky commands to see what kind of response you’d get. I actually own the Space Quest and Kings Quest collections that were re-issued for Windows 98SE-Windows XP…all play fine on my PC. What a deal!

  3. Hopefully they will put them out on Good Old Games(GOG.com) where they retool all their classic games to make sure they work in XP/Vista AND bundle in some extras……great website, hope their library continues to grow, I’ll wait till these hit there.

  5. I cut my adventure gaming teeth on Sierra’s games. In fact I still have my copies of all of the King’s Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, and Gabriel Knight games as well as Phantasmagoria, Lighthouse, and Shivers. This has always been my favorite gaming genre and I am glad to see it being revived. I will be buying these (again :) )
