We are pleased to announce that “All Roads”, the hardcover graphic novel which tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas, will feature cover art created by legendary illustrator and comic book artist Geof Darrow with colors by Peter Doherty. The graphic novel also features art by Jean Diaz (Incorruptible) and Wellinton Alves (Marvel’s Shadowland: Blood on the Streets, Nova). *Attached is a sneak peak of the cover. The full cover illustration will be revealed next week.

Exclusively available in the Fallout: New Vegas collector’s edition, “All Roads” was written by Chris Avellone, the game’s creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.

More PS2 HD Updates On the Way

Posted June 28th, 2010 in Articles, News, PS3, Sony by Adam Robinson

We’ve been hearing rumors for a while about Sony bringing more PS2 classics to the PS3 with HD overhauls like they did for the first two God of War games. Turns out it wasn’t hogwash.

First up will be a three-in-one bundle featuring all of the Sly Cooper titles. If there’s any doubt that there will be more HD updates such as this, consider the box art, which features a “Classics HD” logo. This would seem to indicate Sony’s branding of a new line of similar HD updates of over PS2 titles.

To throw more fuel on the fire, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head honcho Shuhei Yoshida told the folks at IGN that Sony is definitely going to continue releasing more HD updates, but didn’t specify other titles. Based on information from recent Sony surveys making their way across the Net, one would have to assume Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are being considered.

I’d love to plow through both of the aforementioned titles again in glorious HD, especially for trophies. What PS2 games would you folks like to see get an HD makeover?

The Red Star on iPhone and iPod Touch

Posted June 23rd, 2010 in Apple, News, iPod by Drew Koehler

Remember a game for the PS2 and PSP called The Red Star?  A nifty little game about a made up “Russia” (URRS) where you slash, hack and shoot your enemies as a platformer and sometimes in a jet as a side scrolling shooter.  Either way I remember the game being pretty fun and now you can too!  (well if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone) Here are some screen shots.  The game is $4.99 and there is a lite version to try.  Also check out their website http://www.redstar-us.com/.

While I soaked up the sun at Myrtle Beach this week, the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo kicked off in Los Angeles, revealing lots of gaming goodies to the masses. You’re probably well aware of the big ones, but some announcements may have slipped through the cracks. Here’s a brief rundown of the E3 info that you may want—or even need—to know. (more…)

New Xbox 360 Design In Stores This Week

Posted June 14th, 2010 in Articles, E3, Events, Industry, Microsoft, News, Xbox 360 by Adam Robinson

At the end of Microsoft’s E3 conference, a new Xbox 360 design was shown to attendees. The new model will feature built-in wi-fi and a 250GB hard drive. It also seems to be sporting extra vents, which is nice considering the 360′s ability to boil eggs after hours of gaming. Microsoft claims the console is slimmer than the traditional 360 design, but it doesn’t look to be by much.

If you’re interested in purchasing the new design, you won’t have to wait long–they’re en route to retailers as I type this. The new design should be available in a store near you this week. Crazy, eh?

Project Natal Now Called Kinect

Posted June 14th, 2010 in News, Xbox 360, Xbox Live by Drew Koehler

Microsoft via Major Nelson announced recently that Natal is now Kinect.  Apparently keeping with the “kewl” krowd the aptly named Kinect focus on konnecting with others while using kinetics.  Now only if they allow us to play Mortal Kombat with it we can have all the krazy “k’s” in our Xbox.  M$ also announced the launch lineup for Kinect including a driving game, a pet simulator and light saber game.  What do you think about Kinect?  Is this something you will pick up on day one or will you wait awhile?

Pre-order Content Coming to Fallout: New Vegas

Posted June 10th, 2010 in News by Drew Koehler

Various distributors will begin selling preorder game packs for Fallout New Vegas before the game is released this fall.  For you Fallout fans this may be the time to get your hands on some enhancements to the game.  However you feel about prereleasing content, here is what they are offering.

The Classic Pack, available when you pre-order through GameStop, contains:

  • Armored Vault 13 Suit – Extensively patched up and dotted with piecemeal armor, this outfit is an homage to the classic ending of the original Fallout.
  • Vault 13 Canteen – This handy device is useful for staving off dehydration and providing a small amount of healing in the Mojave Wasteland.
  • Weathered 10mm Pistol – A well-worn 10mm pistol that packs an extra punch despite its modest size.
  • 5 Stimpaks – Food and water are good for long-term healing, but when the fighting is fierce, Stimpaks help keep Wastelanders upright.

The Tribal Pack, available when you pre-order through Amazon, contains:

  • Tribal Raiding Armor – Pieced together from scraps of armor, this outfit provides protection without impacting mobility.
  • Broad Machete – This heavy-bladed melee weapon does high damage against limbs and can quickly deal out a flurry of attacks.
  • 5 Bleak Venom doses – Useful on any Melee Weapon, Bleak Venom makes short of work of most living targets.
  • 10 Throwing Spears – If you would like to silently pin an enemy’s head to a wall, Throwing Spears are the way to do it.

The Caravan Pack, available when you pre-order through Steam and Walmart, contains:

  • Lightweight Leather Armor – This hand-modified suit of leather armor reduces its overall weight without impacting its ability to protect.
  • Sturdy Caravan Shotgun – Despite its rough appearance, this Caravan Shotgun will reliably fire 20 gauge shells until the Brahmin come home.
  • 4 Repair Kits – Useful for repairing any outfit or weapon, Repair Kits are a valuable tool for any caravaner.
  • Binoculars – The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous place, but with these trusty Binoculars you’ll be able to spot trouble coming.

The Mercenary Pack, available when you pre-order through Best Buy, contains:

  • Lightweight Metal Armor – Modified for long-range travel, this Metal Armor sacrifices some protection for mobility and overall weight.
  • Mercenary’s Grenade Rifle – Though similar to other 40mm Grenade Rifles in the Mojave Wasteland, this model has a faster reload cycle.
  • 3 Super Stimpaks – When you absolutely, positively, need to keep your blood inside your body, Super Stimpaks fix you up in no time.
  • 3 Doctors Bags – Mercenaries and broken limbs go together like Iguana-on-a-Stick and Nuka Cola.  Thankfully, these Doctors Bags take a bit of sting out of the inevitable crushed skull.

USA Today on Rock Band 3

Posted June 10th, 2010 in Articles, E3, Industry, News, PS3, Video, Wii, Xbox 360 by Adam Robinson

Wanna know more about Rock Band 3 before E3? Worry not, for USA Today has your back.

Looks like the rumored keytar is in there, but can be played like a traditional keyboard if that’s what you prefer. I think that, in my case, I’d go the keytar route for, say, a glam band, then switch to keyboard for someone like Queen. But that’s just me.

Are you folks even interested in another Rock Band? Will a new peripheral be enough to make you shell out another $200 or so for a new hardware bundle?

Oh, by the way: be sure to hit this link to read the full USA Today story and check out a small list of tracks to be included in the game.

Alan Wake Announcement Coming Next Week

Posted June 7th, 2010 in Articles, Events, Industry, News, Video, Xbox 360 by Adam Robinson

Remedy Entertainment, creators of the recent action/horror hit Alan Wake, just put up a teaser for a forthcoming announcement on their Youtube channel. The teaser, a short live-action clip, features the titular hero in circumstances not unlike those found in the game. Here’s the clip for the curious.

Notice a certain object Alan’s holding in his hand? And who is the woman he’s holding as he fends off the Taken? I guess—well, I hope—we’ll find out next Wednesday. Whatever they’re announcing, Remedy says it won’t be new DLC. Color me intrigued.

Stay tuned, Alan Wake fans.

Earthworm Jim Whips His Way Onto XBLA

Posted June 3rd, 2010 in Articles, News, Xbox 360, Xbox Live by Adam Robinson

Remember all of the doofy fun you had with Earthworm Jim back on the ye olde Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo? Have you ever said to yourself: “Man, I’d love to go back and play that again, but I don’t wanna drag out my Genesis/SNES…” Well folks, Xbox Live Arcade has got your back.

Earthworm Jim HD will be heading to XBLA as a timed exclusive later this year, with a PSN release to follow. In addition to a full high-def overhaul, the game will also receive new levels and 4-player co-op shenanigans. If that isn’t enough to excite you, consider this: Keyboard Cat makes an appearance. Seriously.
