The Thing About Heavy Rain

First of all, it’s not a game. I refuse to acknowledge that a few iffy quick time events, or random button presses, or controller movements constitutes a game (unless you consider making eggs, brushing your teeth, changing diapers, and executing the perfect asthma medication inhalation game play). It’s an interactive story, not a game. That being said who is dumb enough to pay $60 for an interactive story. Show me someone that has paid $60 to be privy to a story and I’ll show you someone who is NOT smarter than a fifth grader. (I realize that includes everyone that paid full retail for Heavy Rain, sorry, I was, um, talking about other people, not….you..guys). Anyway!
Let’s just point out what has to happen in order for this IP to work.
Graphics must be top notch: Check
1. Voice Acting must be perfect: not so much
2. Player movement and Camera control must be flawless: saying meh is an understatement.
3. The story must be very intriguing and either; A)be near perfect, or B)have a superb ending: I think anyone who has played this game and is being honest with (him/herself) will admit that the answer to all of the above is no.
I think this would have been something great for SONY to introduce as episodic DLC, or just charge much less for the game to begin with.
In other words Heavy Rain is fail, and while I realize some people will enjoy this game and think I’m an idiot for my take we will have to just agree to disagree.

I’m sorry, but Drew, this article is just childish.
“That being said who is dumb enough to pay $60 for an interactive story.” Right here, you are insulting the intelligence of those that have a different opinon! I don’t even have the game yet, but it’s getting universal acclaim. I know many, many people who love it. You aren’t even in the majority in your opinon. For you to say what you said is just ignorant, rude, and not very Christian, IMO. Story’s are some of the most important things in the world. Jesus even taught using stories, how can you say it’s not worth it for $60? Just because you don’t value it the same way others do doesn’t make it bad. You need to grow up and realize that other people have different opinions and values too, and that yours aren’t any better.
“Show me someone that has paid $60 to be privy to a story and I’ll show you someone who is NOT smarter than a fifth grader.” Broadway plays, plenty of people love seeing them, they cost a crap-ton, are all of those people dumb?
Sorry. I thought Drew had posted this because I saw it in the forums.. Change all the “Drew’s” to “Jeff’s”
Good job for going out and making such a claim. All the major review sites are gushing over this game. I think I’m going to google how the games story goes. I have no desire to play a $60 quicktime event.
@A Christian Gamer. Thank you for your comments, and thank you for reading the article.
I came to HCG looking for Christian fellowship around video games and the first thing I find is an article judging others as dumb if they like a game the author doesn’t like? Is it really any wonder why so many unbelievers have such poor impressions of those who claim to be in Christ? Even if you’re joking you might want to think about using more discernment before you post things to your home page.
